Read the battery model specified for your camera before searching a marketplace. Record the camera model, the existing battery code and the charger code. A similar shape or a listing that mentions the camera brand is not enough to establish compatibility. Check the manufacturer's current accessory information for any model or firmware conditions.

Canon's compatible-accessories tables illustrate why exact combinations matter: some battery compatibility notes include operating limitations or firmware requirements. Use that kind of table for your own camera rather than assuming a newer-looking pack improves every function of an older body.

Separate capacity claims from suitability

A larger number on a replacement listing does not explain whether the camera can use the pack correctly, report its status or charge it through the intended method. Ask those questions explicitly. If the listing blends several battery models under one description, select the exact variant and recheck the specifications before ordering.

Review the seller, return terms and the route for warranty or service questions. Canon warns about counterfeit battery products carrying its branding. A familiar logo in a product photograph is therefore not sufficient verification. Use the manufacturer's guidance on genuine accessories and reputable purchasing channels rather than trying to authenticate a pack from one low-resolution image.

Inspect before the first charge

Check the delivered model and packaging against the order. Do not use a pack with visible damage, swelling or leakage. Follow the camera and charger instructions for charging and storage, and do not force a pack into a compartment that resists closing. A poor fit is a reason to stop, not to trim or modify the casing.

Label compatible spare batteries in a way that does not obstruct contacts or safety information. This helps you distinguish one pack's behaviour from another during normal use. Keep any protective terminal cover supplied with the battery and use it as instructed during transport.

Before relying on a new pack for an event, verify ordinary operation in a noncritical session. Confirm the camera recognizes it and that charging completes normally with the approved setup. Keep the receipt and record the model used. Treat unexpected warnings or abnormal behaviour as a support question rather than repeatedly retrying an uncertain combination.
