Inspect a refurbished monitor before arranging the desk around it. Keep the packaging until you have tested the display and read the seller's condition description, return procedure and any stated pixel policy. A cosmetic grade and a functional warranty describe different things; neither should be interpreted as a promise the seller did not make.

Start with the monitor unplugged. Compare the model label with the order and look for damaged sockets, cracked supports or a power cable that does not belong to the supplied equipment. Do not open the casing or attempt a repair as part of an ordinary purchase inspection. Report visible damage with clear photographs before continuing if necessary.

Check the complete working kit

Confirm that the stand, attachment hardware and power supply match the listing. An omitted proprietary power adapter can turn an inexpensive display into a less convenient purchase. If you plan to use the supplied stand, test its permitted adjustments and make sure it holds the screen normally.

Connect the monitor through the input you intend to use, select its documented native mode and display familiar text. Check readability across the panel, then use plain light and dark backgrounds to look for obvious marks or uneven areas. These observations are a purchase inspection, not a laboratory measurement of colour accuracy or panel performance.

Test more than the first picture

Use the on-screen controls, adjust brightness, and try the ports that were important to the purchase. If you bought the monitor for a USB hub, confirm the required upstream connection and test a harmless peripheral. If speakers matter, test their input path separately from video.

Let the display operate during a normal task and check waking it after the computer sleeps. A fault that appears only during reconnection is still relevant even if the first startup looked fine. Use a known suitable cable where possible so the initial inspection is not confused by an unverified adapter.

Keep a brief record of any issue, the input used and the settings selected. Contact the seller within the applicable inspection period rather than assuming an intermittent problem will settle. If the monitor meets the described condition and your actual needs, save its manual and label details for later support. That record is more useful than relying on the original sales listing remaining online.
