Check first whether your device already has a usable built-in light and how its controls work. If it has none, or if you deliberately prefer a separate lamp, think about where you read. A bedside surface, a train seat and a shared living room offer different places to mount or rest a light.
A clip must attach without pressing on the display or covering controls. Read the permitted opening range and inspect where the pads contact the device or case. A light designed for a paper book may rely on several pages for support and may not fit a thin electronic reader safely.
Aim the beam before adding brightness
Position the light so the page is evenly visible and direct glare does not bounce toward your eyes. Move the head while keeping the reader in its normal position. A bright spot in the middle with dark edges can be distracting even when the lamp has plenty of output.
Check whether the flexible neck stays where you put it. If it slowly drops or makes the reader top-heavy, another mounting position or a freestanding lamp may work better. Try turning pages and adjusting your grip, since a setup that looks balanced on a table can feel awkward in your hand.
If another person shares the room, look at where light spills beyond the screen. A narrower or more adjustable beam may be useful, but test the actual arrangement rather than relying on a claim that the lamp is suitable for night reading.
Compare the stated runtime with the brightness setting used for that claim. Check the specified charging equipment or replacement battery type, and follow the manufacturer's handling instructions. Keep charging cables away from bedding and avoid covering power equipment.
Pack the light so its switch cannot be pressed accidentally and its neck is not forced into a tight bend. A separate pouch can also prevent a metal clip from rubbing against the reader's screen.
Do not choose a lamp solely because it matches the device's colour or fits neatly in a listing photograph. The useful test is a few pages in your normal reading position, with the case fitted and the controls accessible. That reveals whether the light makes the routine easier or simply adds another object to hold.
